Our Ring Sizing Guide

We try to evaluate each style before purchasing. Not only do we try to find quality craftsmanship and gemstones, but we also inspect each style for durability and of course for sizing. We like to purchase styles that can be sized easily and fit most anyones finger. Here is some information on our ring sizing statements that are found in our descriptions.

2 sizes up or down

Generally this refers to a ring that has no elaborate intricacies. There is no apparent danger in modifying the setting to accommodate a smaller or larger size. We suggest that in most cases, an item labeled "2 sizes up or down can be professionally resized up or down at least 2 to 3 full sizes either way for a reasonable charge.

In most cases if you have a professional, qualified, experienced jeweler you should be able to have the ring sized even more than that. However, we only suggest the above sizing limitations. We strongly recommend that you only use an experienced jeweler.

Can be sized 1/2 size up or down

Generally this refers to a ring that has no or few elaborate intricacies. There is no apparent danger in modifying the setting to accommodate a slightly smaller or larger size. We suggest that in most cases, if we say the item can be "sized up or down a half size" that the ring can be professionally resized up or down atleast a ½ size.

In most cases if you have a professional, qualified, experienced jeweler you should be able to have the ring sized even more than that. However, we only suggest the above sizing limitations. We strongly recommend that you only use an experienced jeweler.

Cannot be sized

This statement is in no way a reflection in the quality of the merchandise, For a couple reasons this "can not be sized" statement appears in many of our ads. It mostly refers to rings that have channel set stones. When you start bending a ring to size it (larger or smaller) it also bends the channel that the stones are set in. This can crack or break the gemstones. It can also force them into each other-again cracking or breaking is possible. Bending can also open up the channels and allow the stones to fall out. These concerns can also apply to other setting types that could be opened up when sizing the ring. HOWEVER: A competent jeweler, who was willing to take the stones out of their settings, size the ring and then reset the stones would be able to size a lot of the rings we say can not be sized. Additionally, if you are willing to have the actual ring shape not be perfectly round (which is common) this might allow the jeweler to size a channel set ring. It would be imperative that you take the item to a competent jeweler.

This all may sound complicated and some of it is. We are making all of our sizing statements as a VERY CONSERVATIVE estimate, as we've run into problems with customers who have taken one of our items to an incompetent or inexperienced jeweler and he/she tells them it can not be sized. When in fact the jeweler didn't want to take the necessary extra steps to do it right OR, the customer didn't want to pay the extra $$$, as it isn't a routine sizing.
