| Surprise Inside
If the love of your life-loves to be caught off guard, this gift giving suggestion is for you. It is cheap, easy and a lot of fun Using a giant box to wrap up a tiny gift such as a diamond ring, birthstone earrings, or a sexy piece of lingerie, can provide just the right element of surprise to your gift giving. This is a fairly easy way to make your partner appreciate the gift twice as much.
Choose a Gift
Choose a fairly small gift for this gift giving plan. A beautiful ring, a diamond pendant, or a pair of earrings works really well, because traditionally those things come in very small packages. Since it is pretty obvious what is in those traditionally tiny packages, this surprise attack will allow her to have a doubly joyous experience.
Find sturdy boxes in varying sizes
You will need at least three or four different sized boxes. You can go to a packaging store and purchase boxes in various sizes and shapes if you wish. If you are looking for a more economical (i.e. free) solution, go behind any liquor store or drug store and look in their dumpsters. Often those places separate their cardboard boxes from the other trash and therefore the boxes are clean and easily accessible. All you will need is some packing tape.
Get a card
Buying a thoughtful card to complete a gift is like icing a cake. A cake is a cake without icing, but with icing it is complete. The card completes the gift and makes it a total experience. Be sure the card is thoughtful and appropriate (buying an anniversary card for her birthday is a BIG no no). Write something personal in the card. It doesn't matter how appropriate the printed sentiments in the card may be, you didn't write it!! Underline appropriate phrases and add an "I love you" to the already appropriate thoughts. Be sure to lick the envelope too!! It shows you pay attention to details.
Buy wrapping paper
It will require more effort on your part to wrap each box, but it will also create more anticipation on the part of the "givee" allowing her to become even more excited about what will be in the final box. You can also use different wrapping papers including "suggestive ones" or papers that say/mean different things. She will know you put a lot of though into it if you be just a bit creative.
Wrap the boxes
Place the box with the gift in the next size box. Wrap that box, then place it in the next box, adding weight as you go (see below) Complete this process until you get to the biggest box. Add newspaper around the box to fill it and keep the smaller box from rattling around. She is likely to shake the box and a rattle will give away your surprise. Oprah's website has step by step instructions on how to wrap a present for those of you feeling rusty.
Add weight
Typically small gifts don't weigh much but ones that require large boxes do. Add something heavy to one or more of the boxes (sand, dumbbells, bricks, etc.) to convince her that it really is a large, heavy, gift. Preferably one of the smallet boxes or several of the boxes so that she is left wondering all the way through the gag. IF you have 5 boxes and the first one has all the weight in it, she will probably guess that the gift is light in weight. The key is to keep the gag going as long as possibly to build as much anticipation as possible.
Set the mood
Make sure you give her the gift at an appropriate time. You want her to enjoy the unwrapping process, so be sure she won't be rushed or distracted. Wait until the kids are asleep, work is over, the phone is turned off, or you are truly alone. Once you are rid of all distractions, she will be able to focus on the excitement of being pampered.
