Silver Claddagh Rings

The irish claddagh ring is one of the world's most popular styles. Though the Claddagh has been adopted as a Celtic ring, the Celts never actually made rings. Along with the Eskimos and Assyrians, they're one of three civilizations who did not adorn their fingers. In addition, the claddagh ring was not popular until the seventeenth century. Despite its later origin, the claddagh ring is a part of jewelry history. Legend tells of a young Irish fisherman who gave it to his love. He was captured while at sea and enslaved. Though seperated for years, she remained faithful and he returned to her despire all odds. Today the ring represents the same. Belonging to a group of rings called "Fede rings," which were popular throughout Europe in the Middle Ages, the claddagh ring features to hands grasping a heart topped with a crown. The hands represent friendship, loyalty and "plighted troth" or engagement. The heart and crown sanctify the love between two people. Overall, the claddagh is said to mean , "let love and friendship reign forever."
